"ABOUT THE SELF-PORTRAIT WORKS" EXHIBITION STATEMENT "WINDOW", 2006
hese slightly unusual pieces are my students' works from a basic computer course "Digital Workshop" that I've been teaching at several universities. I have organized the works that impressed me most from among the various assignments in the course. The title of the exercise is "digital self-portrait", and I decided on the theme of "window". Participants didn't only have to use digital equipment they also had to use their whole body. In addition, they had to work as a group, sharing the roles of photographer and model. Above all, I wanted them to imagine and create the relationship between double meanings such as "inside and outside", "myself and others", and "digital media and human body". Actually I've had the idea of "window" as the metaphor for "border", and I always show my students photo-collages, constructed works, and old surrealism pictures to practice this in the classroom. It's very interesting, as we can notice a number of windows, or borders, from the students' own completed works. These are not only architectural windows, but they also express their own various and deep borders. That's why this time I've decided to hold this small exhibition "Window: Here and There".

“課題・自写譚について” 展覧会趣意書 “窓” ，2006
れらのちょっと変わった作品郡は、現在までに私が大学で継続している、コンピュータを用いた基礎演習−デジタル・ワークショップ−における課題の成果物です。いくつか設定した課題のなかでも、特に印象に残った本課題の学生作品を、今回一覧にまとめました。課題名は自写譚。テーマをデジタルな「セルフポートレイト」と広義に設定し、サブテーマを「窓」としています。受講生はデジタル機器の活用の他にも、体全体を使った身体表現が求められ、また撮影者と表現者の分担といったグループワークをも必要となります。そしてなによりも、構想表現として「内と外」「自己と他者」「メディアとボディ」といった2極を覗き橋渡しをする、いわば界面としての窓を各自が考究し作品化して欲しい、という意図がありました。教室では、フォトコラージュ、造形写真、そして一連のシュルレアリズム絵画などを紹介しています。完成した作品からは、実際の建物の窓以外にも様々な境界を読みとることができ、楽しい。これらは多様で大変奥深いこともあり、今回ささやかながら「窓：こちらとあちら」という小さな展観を行います。
