"ATTEMPT TO SHAKE OUR ORDINARY WAY OF PERCEPTION" EXHIBITION FLYER "A NEW STATE OF IMAGES", 1993
isual images emerging in your closed eyes, sound images echoing in the depths of your eardrums. Images differ. So many men, so many images. It is true that you can have each other some similar images in your mind occasionally, but there is no one who can share the totally same perception with you because images are something quite individual, compositions of your own thinking, perception and diverse factors. And still, Images are something so enigmatic, too - unseizable by hand and too ephemeral to inscribe in your memory precisely, vanishing away from your mind in just about no time. For all this, the word "image." is in heavy usage when we talk about arts. That word has wings despite its very vague definition.
With his new works to be exhibited in this show, Iwasaki attempts to shake our ordinary way of perception that we unconsciously take for granted. At the contemporary society where a great flood of information continuously bears down on us, we are apt to recognize things faster than feel, simulating with the help of information input in our memory, without relying on our sensibility. But Iwasaki's works will liberate your perception, way of looking at things freely.

“知覚への揺さぶり” 展覧会チラシ “イメージの新様態” ，1993
の裏に現れる映像、鼓膜の奥に谺する音像‥。イメージはそれぞれ固有のものであり、人によって似通っていても全く同一の認識というものはありえない。各々の思考、知覚の認知、さまざまな要因が重なりあってイメージを構成する。「イメージ。」というこの得体の知れないものは、捕らえようとしても手にとどかず、脳裏にしかとおさめておこうとしても束の間のうちに消えていく。だが、この「イメージ。」という言葉は、美術を語るときに頻繁にお目にかかる言葉でもあるのだ。曖昧でありながら、どんどん手足を生やして一人歩きしはじめる。

今回の展観で展示を行う岩崎は、潜在的に日常わたしたちが当たり前のこととしている知覚に揺さぶりをかけてくる。多くの情報が混在する現代社会において、自らの感覚・知覚に頼らずにこれまでインプットしてきた情報のシミュレートによって、感じるよりも先に認識してしまうことがある。けれども、彼の作品は観者の知覚を自由に解き放ってくれることだろう。
